What’s missing from this Samsung press release?

Samsung has just announced a pair of LCD monitors with built-in TV features that promise to “eliminate the line between work productivity and HD entertainment,” according to the press release. And speaking of that press release, it appears that Samsung has also eliminated the most basic and important spec from the products’ list of features.

Price? Nope, that’s there — $250 for the 933HD+ and $330 for the 2333HD. Resolution? 1360×768 for the 933HD+ and 1920×1080 for the 2333HD. Response time, contrast ratio, that stuff is all there too.

It’s a little known fact that for every one person that writes about technology products, there are 50 public relations people. Maybe 100. It might even be 1000. I don’t know the exact number except to say that they’re everywhere and they all somehow have my phone number and they all somehow know where I live, so I certainly don’t want to brass anyone off but see if you can tell me what’s missing from this press release:

At an estimated street price of $249.99 and $329.99, respectively, both monitors produce picture perfect HD quality in a sleek design and are now available from Samsung resellers and retailers.

COMPACT TV WITH CONNECTIVITY

The 933HD+ and 2333HD have all the benefits of a compact television including a digital TV tuner with an optional cable or satellite connection and up to two HDMI connections, depending on model, to connect digital devices such as a Blu-Ray player and gaming system. The integrated stereo sound system offers great sound and includes Dolby Digital (2333HD). The 933HD+ and 2333HD’s slick glossy black finish features a rounded bottom edge with matching crystal-like acrylic bar.

MULTI-PERFORMANCE

Whether watching movies, sports or a PowerPoint presentation, the 933HD+ and 2333HD offer Samsung’s quality performance with a dynamic contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and 5 millisecond response rate. Movies can be fully appreciated in 16:9 widescreen formats without distortion or stretching and there is ample space to run multiple applications simultaneously. Settings, such as brightness, backlight and color effects, can be quickly customized with a touch of a key using the MagicColor, MagicBright, Color Effect and Image Size functions.

UPDATE/SPOILER: Samsung e-mailed saying that the 933HD+ and 2333HD displays are 19 and 23 inches, respectively. So there you have it. Sweet, sweet closure.

The Future: 3.3mm-thick Samsung TV

If you think about it, you’ll probably only need to hang your flat panel TV on the wall once. Maybe twice. Maybe three times if you really move around a lot, like in the middle of the night when you hear a knock on your door and thank god you slept in your clothes because there’s only enough time to put on a pair of Velcro shoes and grab your 40-inch TV.

Basically what I’m saying is if you want your one-time TV hanging experience to be as smooth as possible or if you have a habit of bolting down fire escapes in the middle of the night, then Samsung’s recently-unveiled 3.3 millimeter thick 40-inch LED TV might be right up your alley.

There’s not a whole lot of info other than that the TV contains a 40-inch, 120Hz panel, a total thickness of just 3.3 millimeters, and a contrast ratio of 5000:1 – pricing and availability (and weight) are unknown, although Akihabara reports that Samsung is looking to get the TV on the market as soon as possible.

Yesterday we finally heard the news we all have waited so long. Genio namely the Samsung S3650 was presented inMilan. Earlier this month, the mobile phone in the shops are selling for an opinion from 159 Euro. With the colorful Genio Samsung Samsung hopes to reach a younger audience.

The specifications of the Samsung Genio was once again emphasized. We see features in cheap touchscreen GSM previously only seen in expensive mobile phone. There are widgets that you can login directly to social networks and the Touchwiz 2.0 interface adapted to the youthful user better service. Furthermore, there are Smart One Finger Unlock and zoom on the Samsung Genio.

What more fun news is that Samsung is the Genio line is continuing to expand. Where we first saw the S3650, there are also a Samsung and Samsung B3210 Pro B5310 Genio Genio TXT. The Samsung S3650 Genio, is a phone with a finger to display

The terminal is capable of operating on the GSM Quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz support for EDGE and GPRS Class 10.
The size is 103 x 56.5 x 12 mm, while the display is a QVGA TFT 2.8 inch Full Touch, capable of displaying up to 262,144 colors at 240 x 320 pixels.
Other facilities include the ringtones polifoniche/MP3, a stereo FM radio with support for RDS, a music player compatible with MP3, AAC, AAC +, WMA and H.263 video, MPEG4, WMV, WAV, DivX, loudspeaker , compatibility with Java MIDP 2.0 and SMS messaging, MMS and email.
The 2 megapixel CMOS camera also has a Fix-Focus and 4x digital zoom.

 

The connection with other terminals can be made with Bluetooth 2.0 or USB 2.0 port.
In addition to the original shell, the Samsung Genio comes with two additional back cover: a cell of the same color embellished with a fancy pattern and a black. The interchangeable back cover are designed to be able to customize their mobile phone so that it reflects perfectly the lifestyle of every day. Colors available at launch are: Jamaican Yellow, Pink Cupid, Minimal White and Orange Festival.



The 40 megabytes of internal memory can be expanded up to 8 gigabytes through the use of microSD cards.

The autonomy guaranteed by the lithium-ion battery from 960 mAh fitted, should be 250 hours of standby or 210 minutes of talk time.

Samsung’s flexible OLED screen Vs. a hammer

 Do you regularly beat your cell phone’s screen in with a hammer? Well, friend, you’re in… wait, you don’t do that? Crap. Lets start again.

Do you know someone who regularly beats their cell phone’s screen in with a hammer? Well, give them a call, because we’ve got good — nope? No one comes to mind? Guh.

Can you imagine someone who regularly beats their cell phone’s screen in with a hammer? Yes? Great. Boy, do we have good news for them! A video was uploaded over the weekend portraying someone (presumably someone in Samsung’s R&D labs) going at a couple of handset screens with a hammer. The only one to walk away unscathed? Samsung’s 20 micrometer thick flexible OLED screen.

Sure, this specific test is a bit impractical – but if that’s one less component we have to worry about breaking, we’re happy. We’ll be back – we’re going to go look for a hammer.
