Automatic updates of an antivirus may consume your precious Internet bandwidth. So, in order to update at your own sweet time it is better to turn off auto-updates and switch over to manual updates. I personally use Avira – so this for Avira users.
Turning Off Daily Updates:
1.Double click on Avira icon in the tray.
2.Open View->Administration->Scheduler.
3.In the Scheduler, uncheck the ‘Daily Update’ option.
This turns off the automatic daily updates.
Turning Off Product Updates:
1.Double click on Avira icon in the tray.
2.Open Extras->Configuration (OR) press F8.
3.Check the Expert Mode.
4.A new menu called ‘General’ appears. In this choose the ‘Update’ option.
5.Under the Product Updates title choose ‘Do not download Product Updates’ option.
This turns off the automatic product updates.
Turning Off ‘Virus Definition Out Of Date’ Notice:
1.Double click on Avira icon in the tray.
2.Open Extras->Configuration (OR) press F8.
3.Check the Expert Mode.
4.A new menu called ‘General’ appears. In this choose the ‘Security’ option.
5.Under the ‘Update’ title uncheck ‘Show notice if the virus definition file is out of date’ option.
This turns off the annoying ‘virus definition out of date’ notice.
